Sortie Meteor-Impact-Site

Marine, Psionic Support

Sortie is young, strong, and intense. When something needs to be broken or someone needs to be hurt, there are few that can match him. The combination of his determination, his keen insight, and his raw telekinetic power is astounding. But outside of these occasions he seems lost, needing to be told what to do or what is expected of him. He's not hostile to his squadron mates... But socialization does not seem to be a priority. Instructors and peers have wondered whether he is merely too wrapped up with the maelstrom raging in his own mind? Or is he simply incapable--the stresses of wielding metadimensional energies having burned out everything "unnecessary"?

Ziara Jorgenson

Command School

Ziara makes no effort to hide her noble blood--made plain by the sword on her hip if nothing else--but she also accepts no favortism for it. A strong believer in merit, she obviously pushes herself much harder than necessary in an effort to prove she deserves her slot in the command school. Ziara refuses to lean on her family name to accomplish anything. A life spent assisting with the oversight of an iron mine has left her driven and capable. She is used to being looked to for guidance and used to giving orders--expecting them to be followed. She also is used to those serving under her seeing her as a protector, and still slips into that role out of habit.

Claus 'Vanrider' Cloudborn

Pilot

Claus is mere moments away from living the life he's always dreamed of. Growing up, he became fascinated with the pulp scifi stories of space bounty hunters and adventurers. As an adult, he would sneak rewatches of his old favorites as his Medivac transport sat on the pad, waiting for the next call. His crew were good natured about it. They took to calling their medivac the 'Vanship,' making their pilot 'Vanrider'. When his interest in space adventures refused to wane, the crew finally convinced Claus to put in for the academy. Already being an accomplished pilot has given him an edge... And the promise of ever bigger and more powerful ships for him to fly keeps driving him onward--much to the squadron's benefit.

Smoke

Marine, Gunnery Officer

There is much the squadron doesn't know about Smoke. Such as: Why is it the first time most of them see him every morning, it's at the coffee pot? Where did a robot learn to be so deadly efficient with firearms? And what's with the long coat and cowboy hat? There are rumors, of course, to explain all of it. But Smoke doesn't seem to be interested in confirming or denying any of them. What is definitely known is that as a Rifleman, a Sharpshooter, and a Gunnery Officer he has proven to be an invaluable member of the team. Almost a towering physique, has vibrant amber ocular sensors. Wears a long, somewhat holey, dark brown coat lined with wool. Blue and grey plaid scarf that looks in significantly better shape than the coat. Black felt cowboy hat, a Sleipson (play on Stetson). Wears a white button down shirt with a charcoal grey vest and tie for formal occasions, otherwise favors simple, dark t-shirts while working.

Celeste

Corpsman

The public story is that the robots awakened by The Institute are merely given guidance and teaching during the three years they spend there--that they themselves are allowed to determine who they will be. Celeste's existence draws into question whether that is always the case. Instead of the obviously mechanical chassis found on almost every other "graduate" from The Institute, Celeste was covered in the best artificial flesh and skin available. With a soft touch and pleasant, soothing appearance, she was trained practically from "birth" to provide medical aid. The project was a success, and Celeste had a successful career in the medical field. She spent years working with injured and disabled patients, either helping them through convalescence or providing support in their rehabilitation. Eventually, however, she began to wonder if her talents would be better used preventing people from becoming broken in the first place instead of trying to fix them once it happened. Naval service provided an obvious path to achieve this, and she was welcomed enthusiastically by the academy. Since joining, Celeste has been a warm and friendly influence on the squadron--providing friendship, first aid, and even the occasional meal to practice what she is learning in her elective culinary studies.

Sol Daemon

Marine, Logistics

Sol Daemon is a large man in his early thirties, though at times he seems older. Sol is a man of relatively few words. He has a rough look about him with swollen knuckles and a nose that has obviously been broken more than once. Rumors follow him that before entering the academy, he possibly had a criminal past, but mentioning those in front of him at best earns the speaker a hostile stare and uncomfortable silence until they change the subject. Sol's main area of focus in the academy has been logistics and supply, but he has earned high marks for his versatility and prowess in combat.

J5B "Jeb"

Marine, Ship Steward

Of the three robots in the squadron, J5B is definitely the most "robotic". Robots from the institute are built in resemblance of the human form. While this is *technically* true for J5B--as he is humanoid--that is the limit of it. J5B looks old, worn, and poorly maintained. His asymmetrical body has numerous, obvious patch jobs where random electronics and even things like starship bulkhead pieces have replaced parts of his original chassis. Unsurprisingly, such an eccletic looking individual is also blessed with a very unique personality. J5B is incredibly dedicated to his chosen career as a steward (or "janitor" as he insists). There seems to be no limit to the amount of effort he is willing to expend to do a job right. Beyond that, he has proven to be a competent, if (unsurprisingly) uconventional, fighter. He has offered little, however, to explain his unique physique, skill set, or even why he seems unusually wary and almost suspicious of convenience or being treated well by others.

Orphen

Marine, Signals/Programming

Orphen is a solid team member, if unexceptional. His uniforms are always neat, his hair always trimmed, his shoes always polished right to minimum regulation. A perpetual rule follower. As a Marine he has managed to maintain acceptable scores in drills and on the range, but has not excelled enough in any particular field to earn more than his Rifleman badge. About the only place Orphen seems to show the slightest hint of being above average is his work in the Systems and Programming courses. But even then his grades do not seem to reflect it. While he does not form deep connections, Orphen is as friendly as one would expect of an average student at the academy. But that's about all that can reliably be said about him: he's an average student of the academy. In fact, he could be any average student of the academy.

Philip J. Shwift

Engineering

To most people, technology is a tool you use to accomplish goals. To Philip, technology IS the goal. Single-minded to the extreme, he has an absolute fascination with tech. A new piece of equipment can utterly monopolize his attention for hours if not days. If nothing new presents itself, Philip can be just as devoted to designing improvements and additional features for the everyday tech used by the Navy. The coursework studying spike drive theory and design in particular is a subject he has revisited over and over during his stint in the academy. His interest in improving the spike drive, however, has so far led to little practical result. For some reason, the powers that be seem less willing to let him tinker with an in-service spike drive than personal weapons or tools... All this combines to make him a brilliant and reliable engineer capable of keeping all of the equipment and systems used by his squadron not just in working order, but performing above and beyond expectations. Philip's appearance is striking. He is a natural albino, with neatly slicked back white hair and a fit but not muscular build. But most distinct of all are the black stains running up from his hands to practically his elbows, making him look as though he is wearing gloves at all times.
